To provide a structure capable of certainly picking the soil sample in the whole layer into which a soil sample picking device is pressed without causing disturbance.
A plurality of hollow short cylindrical sample picking pipes 3a-3h are arranged to the peripheray of a long support 2 so as to be respectively offset in the height direction and peripheral direction of the support 2 and a plurality of picking segments 1A-1D, considered so that the sample picking pipes 3a-3h are not overlapped with each other on a plan view, are prepared. When the picking segment 1A of the lowermost stage is pressed into the ground, the picking segments 1B-1D on and after the second stage picking segment are connected so as to be successively added and further pressed into the ground. If the picking segments 1A-1D are pressed into the ground up to predetermined depths, they are drawn out by reverse procedure and soil samples in the whole layer of depth of penetration are picked by the sample picking pipes 3a-3h.
