Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare the highly active titled polymerization catalyst giving a highly stereoregular polymer without using a de-ashing process, by treating a magnesium halide with aluminum halide, etc. in the presence of a phosphorus oxyhalide, etc., and contacting the product with a halogen-containing titanium compound.

CONSTITUTION: A phosphorus oxyhalide and/or phosphorus halide and an aluminum halide are dissolved in a solvent and made to react under inert gas atmosphere with heating. A medium such as n-heptane is added to the reaction mixture to obtain precipitate. A magnesium halide is added to the precipitate, mixed, crushed, suspended in a medium such as n-heptane, and reacted with an electron donor such as ethyl benzoate with heating. The solid obtained by this reaction is contacted with a halogen-containing titanium compound to obtain a component of the objective catalyst. The objective catalyst is prepared by combining the component with an organo-metallic compound containing a metal of the IWIII group of the periodic table.
