To provide a gasification apparatus which is used for dry-feeding and gasifying a solid fuel such as coal in a gas flow layer style gasification furnace and in which char exhausted from the gasification furnace can be recovered and again be fed into the gasification furnace without using a lock hopper and without forming slurry.
Char discharged outside the gasification furnace together with the gas produced in the gasification furnace is brought into contact with water in a gas cooler 9 to recover the char, dehydrated with a dehydration machine 10, and then fed into a mill 2 or a raw coal banker 1. When the char is fed into the raw coal banker 1, the char is dehydrated and preferably further dried with a drier 14. According to the present invention, the recovered mixture of the char with the water can again be fed into the gasification furnace without using a lock hopper and a dry feeder. Additionally, since the char is dehydrated, preferably further dried, and then fed into the gasification furnace, a large amount of water is not fed into the gasification furnace. Therefore, the lowering in the temperature of the gasification furnace can be prevented, and the efficiency of the gas conversion can be improved.
