To provide a spindle apparatus in veneer lathe wherein a log can be surely cut to a small diameter and yield of veneers can be improved in comparison with the conventional processes.

A spindle apparatus 50 is arranged as an apparatus for holding and rotating both end grain faces of a log 1. The spindle apparatus 50 is constituted of a large, a small and a smallest spindles 2, 3 and 4 and are moved forward and retreated by the action of each fluid cylinder of an advancing and retreating mechanism. In addition, the spindle apparatus is pivoted by a hollow part provided on an axial center part of an enameled shaft supported by a frame and is rotated by driving and rotating of a main motor.
