PURPOSE: To manufacture a yarn having high strength and modulus essentially without necessitating the elongation procedure, by applying a mangetic field to the dope of a fiber-forming anisotropic polymer in the spinning of the dope to a yarn and prior to the solidification of the polymer, thereby causing the orientation of the polymer chain.
CONSTITUTION: Dope of a fiber-forming anisotropic polymer (e.g. poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide) is extruded through a nozzle, and the yarn is introduced into a magnetic field of preferably 5W100k-gauss before the polymer is solidified (preferably has a viscosity of ≤10,000ps), and passed through the magnetic field preferably in ≥1 second, to obtain the objective yarn.
EFFECT: A pill-resistant fiber having low fibrillation tendency can be manufactured by selecting the direction of the magnetic field perpendicular to the flow of the extruded dope.
