PURPOSE: To obtain spun yarn effectively showing woody effect with a low ratio of mixed cotton and to provide a method for producing the spun yarn.

CONSTITUTION: Spun-dyed rayon filament yarn having ≤400g yarn tenacity and ≤20% elongation at break is combined with polyester silver from a flyer cap from a roving process to give roving, which is finely spun, drafted at 25-50 times and the rayon filament is cut to give the objective spun yarn which contains 0.1-10wt.% of the rayon 1 having 5-100mm fiber length and unequal length in a winding state on the polyester spun yarn 2 and in which 2-20 parts wound with the rayon based on 20cm in a dispersed state in the length direction of the spun yarn exist.
