To maintain steep grade distribution of temperature existing in liquid in a storage tank whose inside is partitioned into many partitions by partition walls by making the partition wall by a material having low heat transfer property and specifying respective maximum inner widths of the partitions on a plane perpendicular to the partition walls.
The inside of a liquid hydrogen storage tank 1 for vehicle driven by utilizing a fuel cell is partitioned into many partitions 4 by partition walls 2 arranged vertically except a head space in an upper part thereof. At this time, a thermal insulation material having low heat transfer property, preferably, a plastic material or a composite material such as a cloth material in which resin or a similar substance is impregnated is used as a material constituting the partition wall 2. Individual maximum inner widths of the partitions 4 on a plane perpendicular to the partition wall 2 are limited to be 50 mm or less, preferably, 10 mm or less, and particularly, 5 mm or less. Consequently, liquid hydrogen can be stably stored in a low temperature super- cooled condition, and a large filling amount can be realized by utilizing a volume of the storage tank 1 to the maximum extent.
