PURPOSE: To prevent an outward tilting of a vehicle due to a centrifugal force to occur at the time of the vehicle changing its advancing direction by a method wherein an oil passage provided between a piston and a piston rod in the strut type suspension device for front wheels of an automobile is cut by a turning movement of the front wheels so as to impart resistance to the upward and downward movements for absorbing shock being induced.
CONSTITUTION: When a handle is turned, a cylinder 1 is turned to displace the upper opening of a flow passage 20a from a groove 5c, so that the flow passage 20a comes out of a communication with the groove 5c. At this time, as the groove is closed at the lower part of a piston 4, a liquid chamber 3l1 is sealed liquid-tightly. In this state, when a piston 5 goes down, the liquid within a liquid chamber 5l1 is compressed, so that a free piston 21 goes up, compressing the air within a gas chamber 5l2. Therefore, a large resistance is generated against the descending of a piston rod 5. When the piston rod 5 goes up, as the free piston 21 remains in its descended position, a large value of negative pressure is exerted to the liquid chamber 5l1. This pressure serves as a resistance against the ascending of the rod 5. Accordingly, when the handle is operated, the suspension device can provide a large value of resistance against the expansion and contraction thereof, which prevents the outward tilting of the vehicle due to the centrifugal force.
