PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for supplying a finely crushed fibrous material to the top part of a treating vessel, aiming for the improvement of its simplicity, operation and maintenance by conducting a pressurized transportation by using a slurry pump instead of a conventional high pressure transportation.
SOLUTION: This method for supplying wood chips to the top part of a treating vessel 221 comprises (a) a process for steam-treating the wood chips, removing air therefrom and heating the wood chips, (b) a process for making the wood chips as a slurry with a cooking liquid and preparing a slurry of a liquid and the wood chips, (c) a process for pressure-treating the slurry upto at least approximately 5 atm. gage pressure, at a position of 30 feet (9.14 m) below from the top part of the treating vessel 221 with an action by one or more high pressure slurry pumps to the slurry, and then transporting the pressurized wood chips to the top part of the treating vessel 221, and (d) a process for treating the wood chips during the performance of the transportation process in the (c) process, with a polysulfide, anthraquinone, or their equivalent material or derivative, a surfactant, an enzyme, a chelating agent, or a combination thereof.
