Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the receiving error rate of a system by providing an error-correcting coding means in a transmitting end equipment and providing an error-correcting decoding means in a receiving end equipment. CONSTITUTION: The transmitting end equipment 1 has the errorcorrecting coding means 4 which receives digital information IE to be transmitted. The transmitting end equipment 1 further provides an optical transmitter 5 for receiving information IEC from the means 4 and transmitting light information SE via an optical link 6. The relay 3 may be a light amplifier using a doped fiber or a semiconductor amplifier, for example. The receiving end equipment 2 includes an optical fiber 7 for eliminating an optical noise generated by the light amplifier in order to increase a signal-to-noise ratio. Light information SR transmitted from the optical fiber 7 is transmitted to the optical receiver 8, and this optical receiver 8 transmits digital information IRC. This information is transmitted to the error-correcting decoding means 9 for operating according to a code selected with respect to the means 4.
