In the tandem drive unit which drives a single movable member (heads 13, 52) on one axis by using a belt 41 driven by two motors 21, 31 arranged at both sides, the tandem drive unit comprises: gain switching means (48, 49) which switch gain parameters for servo amplifiers 26, 36 of the motors 21, 31 per moving area of the movable member (13, 52), per moving stroke, and per speed; feedback switching means (48, 49) which switch feedback control methods for the servo amplifiers 26, 36 per moving area of the movable member, per moving stroke, and per speed; and a control means (45) which accelerates setting by dynamically imparting the different parameters and the different feedback control methods to the two servo amplifiers 26, 36.
