PURPOSE: To provide a tearable synthetic resin film and a tearable pressure sensitive adhesive tape which can be torn easily by hand in either direction of length and breadth without using a tool even for the oriented film and can be manufactured without a stretching process.

CONSTITUTION: A polyethyleme film 10 of 120 μm in thickness is embossed to have recesses 11 of a squared cone shape. These recesses 11 are arranged in the direction perpendicular to the ridgelines 12, 13 of the cone, i.e., the ridgeline 12 being oriented in the longitudinal direction Y-Y of the film 10 with the ridgeline 13 in the lateral direction X-X of the film 10, to form a checkered pattern.
