To reduce the coil break and shrunk wrinkles in the tip and tail end parts of the coil of a steel strip by making the draft of skin pass and/or tension before and after skin pass to the tip part and tail end part of the coil of a hot rolled steel strip larger than those in the other section of the hot rolled steel strip.
In a control off-mode in which skin pass load is loaded taking the target of elongation percentage ratio as about 70% over the entire length of the coil, skin pass load is loaded only on this part of the tip and tail end parts where inside coil break and shrunk wrinkles are generated changing the elongation percentage ratio to 90%. In this way, the coil break and shrunk wrinkles in the tip and tail end parts are reduced without exerting any influence upon an intermediate steady part.
