PURPOSE: To obtain a therapeutic agent for diabetes by using a specific compound effective for improving hyperglycemia of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mouse, having low side effect and exhibiting excellent effect.
CONSTITUTION: The objective therapeutic agent for diabetes contains e.g. the compound of formula I [A is group of formula II, formula III (R1 is H, methyl or aldehyde group), etc.; B and C are group of formula IV or formula V; dotted line is single or double bond] as an active component. The compound of formula I can be produced by extracting a plant such as Thermopsis fabacea with a solvent such as hexane or diethyl ether, removing the solvent, partitioning the residue with hydrochloric acid, etc., partitioning the water layer with methylene chloride, etc., adding potassium carbonate to the organic layer, removing the solvent, adding an elution solvent such as hexane to the extract and fractionating the mixture by column chromatography, etc. The compound of formula I is incorporated with a carrier such as excipient, binder and surfactant to form tablet, granule, etc., for oral administration or used together with physiological saline water, glucose solution or vegetable oil for injection to form an injection, etc., for parenteral administration. The daily dose of the compound of formula I is 6mg to 6g for adult.
