Title:
THERMAL SHOCK RESISTANT GRAPHITE ELECTRODE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2010067597
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To solve the problem that a large-sized graphite electrode for steel manufacture is prone to suffer from a crack during its manufacture and use, and in particular, that falling off (spalling) resulting from a crack occurred during its use has a great negative effect on the cost of steel manufacture.

By forming the graphite electrode in a hollow shape, it is possible to allow the gas inside pores of the graphite, which may cause cracks, to be discharged to the outside. Thereby, generation of thermal stress in the graphite electrode is reduced and thus occurrence of cracks is prevented.
