1393234 Antistatic filaments E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 20 July 1973 [21 July 1972 19 June 1973] 34643/74 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] A synthetic antistatic filament comprises a continuous, non-conductive sheath of a synthetic, thermoplastic fibre-forming polymer surrounding an electrically conductive core said sheath comprising at least 50% of the filament cross-sectional area and said core comprising electrically conductive carbon black dispersed in a thermoplastic synthetic polymer. The filament sheath may be formed from polyolefins, polyacrylics, polyamides and polyesters and the filament core contains 15-50% carbon black dispersed in a polyamide, polester, polyacrylic, polyether, polycaprolactone, or polyolefine optionally blended with oils and waxes to facilitate processing. Copolymers such as poly(ethylene/vinyl acetate), may also be used. Filaments are melt spun by conventional two polymer sheath/core spinning equipment.
