Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily perform uniform electroless plating with excellent adhesion property for a glass fiber by pretreating the glass fiber with an. aq. soln. in which both of a water-soluble urethane resin and a water-soluble amino or epoxy silane coupling agent are dissovled.

CONSTITUTION: Before a glass fiber material to be treated such as glass fiber bundles and fabrics is subjected to electroless plating, the fiber material is dipped in an aq. soln. in which both of a water-soluble urethane resin and a water-soluble amino or epoxy silane coupling agent are dissolved. Then the fiber material is dried and heated as the pretreatment. The water-soluble urethane resin is obtd. by synthesizing from aromatic polyester polyols and aromatic isocyanate. The water-soluble silane coupling agent has hydrolyzable alkoxy groups in inorg. reactive groups and has amino or epoxy groups in org. reactive groups. This pretreatment can be done in a simple process and does not cause such problems as contamination of working environment and processing of the waste liquid. Thereby, the metal film formed by electroless plating shows significant improvement in adhesion property, and uniform appearance without irregular weave can be obtd.
