Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate yolk, soap, earth and sand, without aqueous finish scouring or mechanical scraping, by bringing raw wool in an opened state of the bulk density below a specific value into contact with an organic solvent capable of dissolving the yolk. CONSTITUTION:The raw wool 1 is opened by the opener 2 to a density <=0.04g/ cm<3>. The opened wool 1 is then brought into contact with an organic solvent, e.g. 1,1,1-trichloroethane, which dissolves the yolk, in a micellar state adjusted to 0.2wt% or more of yolk, at a relative speed >=1m/min, in the wool scouring machine 3 to form the solvent scoured wool 4. The solvent is removed from the wool 4 in the solvent removal unit 5 to give the finished wool 6. The used washings are separated into the supernatant and precipitate in the settler 8. The supernatant is used as a wash liquor, and the precipitate is recovered as a wool grease. The wool may be opened in contact with the solvent.
