PURPOSE: To measure the deviations of video heads from normal positions automatically and accurately and to make the deviations adjustable without damaging the heads, by providing a measuring mechanism for head deviations which measure the head deviations generated by electromagnetic induction according to the relative distances between the video heads and an inspection head.

CONSTITUTION: A cylinder 2 provided with two pieces of video heads 1a, 1b for recording or reproducing on the circumference thereof in contact with a video tape is provided as an adjusting mechanism for relative distances on a mechanism 2' for rotating and driving the cylinder. An inspection head 3a of mutual induction type as an inspection head of electromagnetic induction type is provided in the position where said head can face a video head 1a provided to the cylinder 2 without contacting therewith. Said inspection head is provided on mechanisms 4a, 6a for moving the inspection head, at a right angle to the central axial line 5 of the cylinder 2, that is, in the radial direction X of the cylinder 2. The mechanism 4a for moving the inspection head in the Z-axis is constituted as a vertical moving mechanism that can move in parallel with the line 5 of the cylinder 2.
