PURPOSE: To obtain the model which has the cutting property extremely analogous with the cutting property of natural teeth and is adequate for training cutting in dental education by incorporating specific hydroxy-apatite powder and (meth)acrylic acid system resin at weight ratios of a specific range into this model.
CONSTITUTION: This model contains the hydroxy-apatite powder having 40 to 80% porosity and the (meth)acrylic ester resin at 20%:80% to 50:50% ratios by weight as the main constituting components. The hydroxy-apatite powder having 40 to 80% porosity is satisfactory. This powder may be the synthetic hydroxy-apatite powder produced from a calcium salt and phosphorus salt and may be the natural hydroxy-apatite powder derived from the bones of mammals and fishes. A lipophilic property is preferably imparted to the surface of the hydroxy-apatite powder previously subjecting its surface to a surface treatment. This surface treatment improves the affinity of the hydroxy-apatite powder and a (meth)acrylic ester monomer and is effectual in uniformly dispersing the hydroxy-apatite powder.
