To provide a turret lathe, stabilizing load of a work applied to a tool to machine the work to be spherical with good accuracy, reducing a turret index clearance, and restraining increase in size of a lathe.
This turret lathe includes: a spindle supporting the work W; and a turret 16 on which a plurality of tools are freely mounted in the periphery thereof and which is turned to the work wide where one tool 65 is supported on the spindle to enable dividing. At least one of the tools is mounted on a tool turning unit 17 fitted to the periphery of the turret 16, and the tool turning unit 17 turns the knife edge 65a of the tool 65 on a circular-arc locus in the state where the tool 65 keeps an attitude of directing substantially to the center of the spherical surface of the work W to machine the work W to be spherical. The turret 16 has a built-in turning driving mechanism for driving the tool turning unit 17. The tool turning unit 17 turns the tool 65 around the turning center line O2 of the tool orthogonal to the turning center line of the turret 16.
