Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:UCN-01 of formula having the following physical and chemical properties. Molecular formula, C28H26N4O4; melting point, 245W250°C (decomposition); [α]D22=+132.0° (C=0.3, methanol); solubility, soluble in methanol, chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, hardly soluble in water and hexane; etc.
USE: Antitumor agent and bactericide.
PREPARATION: A microbial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing UCN-01 [e.g. Streptomyces sp. UCN-01 (FERM BP-990)] is cultured at 28W30°C and 6W8pH for 1W7 days preferably by submerged spinner culture method.
