Abstract:

PURPOSE: To correctly measure a depth position of a defective echo even in a case where a voltage value input to an A/D conversion means exceeds the maximum converted voltage value.

CONSTITUTION: An echo obtained from a test piece 1' formed of the same material as a subject 1 is received with an amplification factor same as that at the time of flaw-detecting of the subject 1, and respective positions of the maximum value of a surface echo and the maximum value of a bottom echo of the test piece 1' are calculated. Then a transmitting part 3, an ultrasonic probe 2, a receiving part 4 and an A/D-converter 5 are used to obtain a flaw detection signal from the subject 1, while the respective positions of the surface echo maximum value and the bottom echo maximum value, thickness and a sound speed of the test piece 1' and the flaw detection signal from the subject 1 are used to calculate a depth position of a flaw 1a existing in the subject.
