Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure a liquid level accurately even if the outside wall of a liquid storage means has a high temperature, by arranging a transmitter and a receiver so that they are not brought into contact with each other.

CONSTITUTION: A coil 2" is excited by an external circuit preliminarily to generate magnetic fields B1 and B2 in an outside wall 9'. When a strong high frequency pulse current is flowed to a driver coil 5 by a current generating mechanism 7, the electric charge is migrated in speeds V1 and V2 in the outside wall 9' to induce an eddy current. In this case, the eddy current receives Lorentz forces F1 and F2 in the direction orthogonal to magnetic fields B1 and B2 as shown in figure by solid lines in a short time, and the outside wall 9' is displaced in the direction of forces F1 and F2, and ultrasonic waves are generated in the direction of an arrow A and advance in a direction C in a tank 9 and are reflected partially by a liquid surface 10' of a liquid 10 and advance in an opposite direction C' and strike the outside wall 9', and the eddy current induced in the outside wall 9' is detected by a detecting coil 6. A signal processing circuit 11 receives signals of the current generating mechanism 7 and an ultrasonic wave generating mechanism 8 to operate a time spent from the generation of ultrasonic waves to the detection of them, and the liquid level of the liquid 10 is calculated on the basis of this time.
