PURPOSE: To obtain an accurate picture signal, by adding an ultrasonic wave absorber on the wave transmission/reception surface of an ultrasonic wave probe and quickly reducing the signals caused by a multireflection to suppress a multi-image.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic wave absorber 20 is added on a wave transmission/ reception surface 10a of an ultrasonic wave probe 10. The ultrasonic beam radiated from the surface 10a enters an object 18 to be inspected through the absorber 20. The reflected waves sent from reflectors TA and TB detect the pulses A1' and B1' with an electroacoustic transducer 14 after passing through the absorber 20. A part of the reflected flutrasonic wave is reflected again on the surface 10a to be returned to the reflectors TA and TB, and returns to the surface 10a to detect the pulses A2' and B6'. Another part of the reflected ultrasonic wave repeats the reflection to detect pulses A3', B3'∼. If the amount of attenuation caused when passing once through the absorber 20 is assumed to αdB, an attenuation of 2αdB is caused in every going and returning. A quick attenuation is caused at and after the second time. As a result, the pulse due to a multireflection is reduced quickly, and a clear discrimination is possible between A1' and B1' to obtain an accurate picture signal.
