PURPOSE: To use memory transmission function effectively at all times by avoiding that the memory transmission function is unavailable due to fullness of an image memory.

CONSTITUTION: When an original is set to a read section 3 and destination information is entered from an entry section 61, a main control section 1 allows a transmission reception section 5 to make dialing to the destination and when the line is connected, an original read by the read section 3 is sent to the destination from the transmission reception section 5. However, as the result of the dialing, the line is not connected to the destination and redialing is waited, the main control section 1 allows the read section 3 to read the original and it is stored in an image memory 2 and then the memory transmission mode is set. When the line is connected to the destination by redialing, the original read from the image memory 2 is sent to the destination. Thus, the quantity of the original subjected to memory transmission is reduced to avoid impossibility of memory transmission due to full occupation of the memory by the data of the input original even when the capacity of the image memory is small.
