To provide a voice information referring device and method automatically preparing a data base for voice retrieval from a supplementary information file inside a personal computer and referring to the list of file names where relating information is present and the contents of files when voice input is performed.

This voice information referring device is provided with a voice input device 10 for outputting inputted voice when a word desired to be referred to by a user is inputted by voice, the personal computer 12 for preparing the data base in advance for the voice retrieval from the supplementary information file, inputting the voice outputted from the voice input device 10, analyzing voice at the time of recognizing the voice, converting it to code data, retrieving the data base for the voice retrieval by the code data and outputting a retrieved result and a display device 14 for displaying the list of outputted retrieved results. The user refers to the displayed list and refers to the contents of the file by referring to the list displayed on the display device 14 and selecting the file.
