To save the cost of electricity necessary for drying the laundry without increasing vibration or noise.
The washing and drying machine is configured to control the operation frequency of a compressor based on the temperature of a condenser constituting a heat pump. A control device executes the intermittent operation of stopping the operation of the compressor when the operation frequency of the compressor is lowered to a prescribed lower limit value (refer to the point b indicated in Fig.(a)) and starting the operation of the compressor again thereafter. During the intermittent operation, the laundry within a drum is dried only with air blown from a circulation fan utilizing residual heat of the condenser while the operation of the compressor is stopped.
