To dry washing by dry air supplied after completing washing by providing an air feeding port at the outer tank of an automatic washing machine so as to connect a hot air generator to this through an air feeding pipe and providing an exhausting port at a position on a side opposite to the air feeding rotate the outer tank so as to connect an exhausting pipe.

The washing machine with the outer tank 2 and an inner tank 3 to be uses as a washing and drying tank in common, the air feeding port 7 and exhausting port 8 are provided at mutually opposite positions at the upper part of the tank 2 and the hot air generator 5 provided within a main body case 1 is connected to the port 7 through an air feeding pipe 6. On the other hand, an exhausting pipe 9 communicated with outside air is connected with the port 8. Then at the time of finishing washing by putting washing within the tank 3 to execute each process of washing, rinsing and dehydrating, the generator 5 is operated to introduce dry air into the tank 3 from the port 7 to dry. At this time, the tank 3 is rotated forward/backward at a reduced speed to disentangle the washing to improve drying efficiency. Air made humid by drying is discharged from the pipe 9.
