Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form an acrylic ester copolymer emulsion by polymerizing a silicone component of a specified formula with a (meth)acrylate in the presence of a nonionic emulsifier and/or an anionic emulsifier. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of a specified concentration is prepared by adding a polymerization catalyst and water to a mixture of 2-60wt.% silicone component comprising a polymerizable silicone of formula I (wherein R is OH, OCmH2m+1, Oph, CmH2m+1, Ph, CmH2m-CH=CH2, a group of formula II or a group of formula III; R2 is CmH2m+1, OH, CmH2m-CH=CH2, a group of formula II or a group of formula III; and x, y and z are each 0-150) and a nonpolymerizable silicone of formula IV (wherein R is CmH2m+1 or Ph; and n is 200-5000) with 98-40wt.% (meth)acrylate. 0.1-30wt.% nonionic and/or anionic reactive emulsifier is added dropwise to this solution while heating the reaction mixture under agitation to obtain an acrylic ester copolymer emulsion of a particle diameter of 0.1-0.6mum serving as a coating agent for water repellency treatment.
