To provide a water electrolysis system which can reduce a discard amount of high-pressure hydrogen existing downstream of a water electrolysis apparatus for producing the high-pressure hydrogen as much as possible, when depressurizing the water electrolysis apparatus to normal pressure, and can conduct effective and economical water electrolysis treatment.
The water electrolysis system 10 has the water electrolysis apparatus 14 for producing the high-pressure hydrogen by electrolyzing pure water supplied from a pure water supply device 12. A pressure-releasing device 52 for releasing a hydrogen pressure of the water electrolysis apparatus 14 by disconnecting the hydrogen pressure with a gas-liquid separator 18 is arranged between a pipe 34c of the water electrolysis apparatus 14 and a check valve 40 on the entrance side of the gas-liquid separator 18. The pressure-releasing device 52 has a depressurizing path 54, and the depressurizing path 54 has a decompression valve 56 and a solenoid valve 58 arranged therein.
