Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a water pressure resistant buoyant material for use in an underwater apparatus for deep sea which is equipped with a low specific gravity and a high strength by filling an opening-equipped vessel made of syntactic foam with hollow spheres of glass, etc., filling the voids with silicone oil, and sealing the opening with a cap made of synthetic rubber.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel 6 having an opening 6a is made of syntactic foam and is filled with hollow spheres 7 having a micro-diameter consisting of glass, etc., and the voids are filled with silicone oil 8. The opening 6a is sealed with a cap 9 made of synthetic rubber. The sizes of these spheres 7 are approx. 100 microns by 60% and approx. 30 microns by 40%, being mixed together, and the rate of filling is determined in accordance with the anti-water pressure strength. Silicone oil 8 is of such type as dimethyl silicone oil, etc., having a viscosity of approx. 10CS. It may also be accepted that the vessel 6 is in the form of a boot made of synthetic rubber and the cap is made of syntactic foam.
