This fabric inspection system works as follows: when an abnormality detection signal is outputted by a signal processing circuit board 21 including a defect presence/absence judging means, an output circuit 39 outputs a scanning halt signal to a scanning control unit C1 in response to the input of the abnormality detection signal; the output circuit 39 also outputs an alarm signal to an alarm unit 25; the scanning control unit C1 halts a fabric inspection motor 13 in response to the input of the scanning halt signal; the alarm unit 25 informs a relevant operator of a defect presence judgment in response to the input of the alarm signal; and the operator, based on the information from the alarm unit 25, thus confirms the presence/absence of defect(s) in the vicinity of a sensor head 14's halted position.
