To provide a zeolite catalyst which controls the production of a hydrocarbon with a high boiling point or a carbonaceous material and is excellent in selectivity of gasoline fraction hydrocarbons; and also to provide an alkylation method using the zeolite catalyst.
The zeolite catalyst for alkylating an isoparaffin-olefin consists of a beta zeolite wherein the beta zeolite contains lanthanum, and the proportion of lanthanum in the zeolite is 0.001-0.2 in terms of the ratio of lanthanum atom to silicon atom [La]/[Si], wherein the beta zeolite is synthesized by dry gel method and the average particle size is 0.01-1 μm. The isoparaffin-olefin alkylation method comprises bringing a mixture of isoparaffin and olefin of which the molar ratio (Mip/Mo) of the isoparaffin (Mip) and the olefin (Mo) is 2-50 into contact with the zeolite catalyst at a temperature of 25-150°C.
