PURPOSE: To display a color picture with high resolution without causing flicker by using a monochromatic picture display section.
CONSTITUTION: A composite video signal CV is decomposed into color signals red (R), green (G) and blue (B), the color signals are converted into digital signals and written in storage sections 7, 8, 9. The color signals stored in the storage sections 7, 8, 9 are read at a speed thrice that at writing. A storage section control circuit 27 selects sequentially the storage sections 7, 8, 9 storing the color signals synchronously with a vertical synchronizing signal V and gives the selected signal to a picture display section 11. A coloring device 12 is arranged opposite to a display screen of the picture display section 11 and a color picture is displayed on the picture display section 11 by driving the rotation of the coloring device 12.
