PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound useful as a carbapenem antibacterial agent.
CONSTITUTION: This novel compound is expressed by the formula (wherein R is H or CH3; R1, R2 are each H, CH3, HOCH2- or the like; Ra is H, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen or the like; HAR-R2a is 2-thienyl, 2-furyl, benzothiophen-2-yl or the like; M is H, Na or the like). The compound of the formula is obtained by allowing a boron compound and an aryl halide, which are the start materials, to react with each other to yield a base heteroarylphenyl compound (HAP) which is convertible into a two-position substituent product of carbapenem of the formula. Subsequently, this base HAP is attached to the carbapenem and further is replaced with a desired Ra and deprotected. The obtained product exerts an effect, especially against gram positive bacteria or MRSA/MRCNS activity.
