To provide a cold iron source melting method capable of efficiently melting cold iron sources as raw materials for making steel such as scrap by using a molten metal holding furnace such as a metal mixer.
Cold iron sources are charged into a molten metal held by a metal mixer type molten metal holding furnace having a molten metal receptacle on an upper part of a furnace body having the shape with the axis of a cylinder in a horizontal condition and an induction heater on a lower part thereof, and the cold iron sources are melted in the molten metal. After the cold iron sources are charged through the molten metal receptacle, additional molten metal is charged to promote the flow of the molten metal held in the furnace.
