Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel assembly capable of increasing the mass of nuclear fuel substances while ensuring a thermal margin.SOLUTION: In a fuel assembly 1 comprising: a channel box 7 of a quadrangular cylinder shape; and a plurality of fuel rods 10 disposed in a grid-like pattern within the channel box 7, an average diameter of outermost layer fuel rods 2 facing an inner wall surface of the channel box 7 is larger than an average diameter of all the fuel rods 10 disposed within the channel box 7, an average placement pitch of the outermost layer fuel rods 2 is wider than an average placement pitch of second layer fuel rods 3 adjacent to the outermost layer fuel rods 2, and for a thermal equivalent diameter defined in Equation (1), and a ratio f an average thermal equivalent diameter of the outermost layer fuel rods 2 to an average thermal equivalent diameter of inner layer fuel rods 13 disposed inward of the outermost layer fuel rods 2 is higher than 1.0 and lower than 1.4. X=4S/πR(1), where R: fuel rod diameter, and S: a channel cross-sectional area within fuel rod grid.
