PURPOSE: To provide a three-dimensional display device where a stereoscopic vision observation area is remarkably expanded and on which a high-resolution and high-quality stereoscopic picture is reproduced.
CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a liquid crystal panel 1 simultaneously displaying plural different parallax pictures; an optical characteristic variable lens 2 attached to the panel 1, constituted of the array of cylindrical lenses, and capable of varying the optical characteristic of the cylindrical lens; a head detection part 3 detecting the spatial position of the head of an observer; and an optical characteristic variable lens control part 4 connected to the detection part 3 and controlling the lens 2 based on the positional information of the head detected by the detection part 3 so that the stereoscopic picture may be reproduced at the optimum position of the head.
