To provide an apparatus and a method for determining abnormality of induction hardening in which the induction hardening is appropriately performed.
The apparatus for determining abnormality of induction hardening 20 includes a current sensor 21 for detecting an output current from a high frequency inverter 11, a voltage sensor 22 for detecting a voltage produced in a heating coil 14, a calculation part 23d for calculating load impedance based on the detection signal of the current sensor 21 and the voltage sensor 22, and a determining part 23e for detecting the abnormalities of the heating coil 14 or a work 15 from the value of the load impedance calculated by the calculation part 23d. The apparatus for determining abnormality of induction hardening 20 is attached to a high frequency circuit in which the heating coil 14 and a capacitor 12 are connected to the high frequency inverter 11. The determining part 23e identifies the presence or absence of a core in the heating coil 14 from the value of the load impedance calculated by the calculation part 23d, or determines the replacement time of the heating coil 14 when the value is outside a predetermined threshold value as compared with a value calculated by the calculation part 23d in the past.
