Abstract:
Production of propylene oxide comprises producing cumene hydroperoxide by oxidizing cumene, producing propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol by reacting the cumene solution including cumene hydroperoxide and excess propylene in the liquid phase in the presence of a solid catalyst and producing cumene by hydrogenolysis of the cumene alcohol. Production of propylene oxide comprises: (1) producing cumene hydroperoxide by oxidizing cumene; (2) producing propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol by reacting the cumene solution including cumene hydroperoxide and excess propylene in the liquid phase in the presence of a solid catalyst; and (3) producing cumene by hydrogenolysis of the cumene alcohol in the presence of a solid catalyst and recycling the cumene to the oxidation process as a raw material. The concentration of organic acid in the cumyl alcohol supplied to the hydrogenolysis process is = 200 weight ppm.
