Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel trifluorobutenone derivative having a wide and antimicrobial spectrum against pathogenic fungi of paddy rice plant and horticultural crops, showing excellent controlling effect, not being recognized to have phytotoxicity to cultured plants.

CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (A is lower alkyl, lower haloalkyl or phenyl which may be replaced; B is lower alkyl or phenyl which may be replaced; (n) is 1 or 2 and when B is substituted phenyl, (n) is further 0) and its structural isomer of formula II such as 5,5-dimethyl-2-(4-methylphenyl) thio-1,1,1-trifluoro-2-hexen-4-one. The compound is obtained by reacting an enol triflate derivative of formula III with a thiol of the formula B-SH in the presence of a base preferably in a solvent and optionally oxidizing the resulting substance in a proper solvent.
