To provide a method for increasing the speed of decomposition of an aromatic compound such as toluene to carbon dioxide in the case of decomposition removal of the aromatic compound by using a visible light-responsive photocatalyst containing a tungsten compound such as tungsten oxide or a tungsten compound mixed with a co-catalyst and radiating visible light.
The speed of complete decomposition of organic matter such as toluene to carbon dioxide under visible light radiation is increased by using a visible light-responsive photocatalyst containing a tungsten compound such as tungsten oxide or a tungsten compound mixed with a co-catalyst and causing the catalytic reaction in a state that the surface of the photocatalyst is reformed by adding water or controlling humidity.
