To provide a pig iron storing furnace in which the service life of a lining refractory is extended in comparison with the conventional furnace, even in the case of storing not only the molten pig iron for producing an ordinary molten steel but also Cr-containing molten pig iron, and a method for operating the pig iron storing furnace, by which the extension of the service life is further increased.
The pig iron storing furnace, in which the refractory is used as the lining and the molten pig iron is stored and also, a channel type induction heating device is provided and the heating-up and the component adjustment of the molten pig iron and the melting of cold iron source separately charged can be performed, is improved. The improvement means that refractory containing ≥80 mass% neutral refractory is used as the lining, and in this case, it is preferable that the neutral refractory is a mixture of aluminum oxide and chromium oxide and/or silicon carbide. Further, when the molten pig iron is stored in such a pig iron storing furnace, its operating method is also improved.
