Title:
ACTIVE COMBUSTION CHAMBER OF A PISTON ENGINE AND METHOD FOR TRANSFERRING HEAT IN THE ACTIVE COMBUSTION CHAMBER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/146598
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to an active combustion chamber of a piston engine and a method for the transferring heat in the active combustion chamber during a single engine operation cycle. The inside of the active combustion chamber (KS) comprises at least one thermal buffer (BT) which is adjacent to the contents of the combustion chamber (KZ) and is thermally separated from the components of the combustion chamber (KS). The method consists of placing in the inside of the combustion chamber (KS), at least one thermal buffer (BT) which is adjacent to the contents of the combustion chamber (KZ) and is thermally separated from the components of the combustion chamber (KS). The thermal buffer (BT) is made from a compact material, the volumetric specific thermal capacity is higher than 1.1 J/cm3K and the temperature diffusivity is higher than 0.1 cm2/s, and the thermal buffer (BT) is made optionally from a material which has the properties of zeolite and advantageously is made from zeolite. The thermal buffer (BT) also has geometric dimensions and is made from a material such that the value of the total thermal capacity of the thermal buffer (BT) is in the region of between 100 % - 650 % of the value of the thermal portion received from the contents of the combustion chamber (KZ). A thermal portion, in an amount of between 5% - 90% of the energy which is guided to the combustion chamber content (KZ) during an individual engine operation cycle, is received by the combustion chamber content (KZ) by passing through the thermal buffer (BT), then in the same engine operation cycle, preferably when the head of the piston (KT) moves in the intensive conversion area (TA), after reducing the temperature of the combustion chamber content (KZ) as a result of the thermodynamic conversion, the combustion chamber content (KZ) is heated by the heat accumulated in the thermal buffer (BT), and after the completion of the working cycle, the load in the intake cycle and in the compression cycle of the next engine operational cycle is heated by the heat present in the thermal buffer (BT), such that the thermal buffer (BT) is prepared to receive a thermal portion in the working cycle. The buffer cycle as well as the heating and cooling cycles of the thermal buffer (BT) begin from the top dead point (OT) of the piston (KT) which opens the working cycle, and ends at the top dead point (OT) of the piston which closes the compression cycle of the next engine operational cycle.
