Title:
ADAPTIVE MODULAR MULTIFUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1999/028607
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is an adaptive modular multifuel internal combustion engine which is adapted to function with different kinds of fuel and to support variations of engine load during operation. The engine is composed of several autonomously functioning modules whereby the number of modules may vary depending on the engine load. The engine has a main microprocessor with inputs coupled to the controller of the control element as well as to the crankshaft RPM indicator. The outputs of the main microprocessor are coupled to the start/stop mechanism of the modules. Each module is provided with attached microprocessors whose inputs are coupled to the outputs of the main microprocessor, to detonation sensors and to the detectors pertaining to top dead center and lower dead center of the pistons. The outputs of the attached microprocessors are coupled to a driven mechanism which varies the compression ratio and piston displacement, said mechanism having a reversing member, as well as to fuel metering units of the fuel supply system. The reversing members are connected to the oscillation axis of the levers, each lever being connected to the hinge of a modular piston rod and adapted to make reciprocating movements.
