An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 3 wherein said cover means includes an opening for allowing said assembly to be inserted into said cover means, and closure means disposed about said opening for allowing said assembly to be closedly enveloped within said cover means.

5. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 2 wherein said seat cushion member is made of a cellular

thermoplastic honeycomb material.

6. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 5 wherein at least some of the cell walls of said cellular

thermoplastic honeycomb material are perforated.

7. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, comprising: a generally planer, rectangular base member having a first planform with a back edge, a front edge and left and right-side edges respectively connecting said front and back edges; 3

a generally rectangular and resilient seat cushion member having a second planform substantially congruent with said first planform and disposed in overlying relationship to said planer base member, said seat cushion member being pivotally attached along a back edge thereof to said back edge of said planer base member and rotatable between a non-parallel disposition relative to said planer base member and a parallel disposition relative to said planer base member; a plurality of variously sized and shaped seat cushion deforming elements affixed to a surface of said planer base member generally facing said seat cushion member, said cushion deforming elements being operative to engage and deform said seat cushion member when said seat cushion member is rotated about the pivotable attachment from said non-parallel disposition relative to said planer base member into said parallel disposition relative to said planer base member; and means for selectively securing the deformed seat cushion member to said planer base member.

8. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein said means for selectively securing includes a cover means removably disposed about said seat cushion member, said planer base member and said cushion deforming elements when said seat cushion member is disposed in parallel disposition relative to said planer base member.

9. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein at least one of said seat cushion deforming elements is a pelvic obliquity element and is disposed on and secured to said planer base member in a position proximate said back edge and one of said side edges thereof.

10. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein at least one of said seat cushion deforming elements is a pommel element and is disposed on and secured to said planer base member in a 4

position proximate said front edge and midway between said side edges thereof.

1 1 . An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein at least one of said seat cushion deforming elements is a wedge element and is disposed on and secured to said planer base member in a position proximate said front edge and one of said side edges thereof.

12. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein said seat cushion member has a first resiliency, and said planer base member has a second resiliency substantially stiffer than said first resiliency.

13. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, as recited in claim 7 wherein said seat cushion member and said planer base member are each made of at least one layer of thermoplastic elastomeric honeycomb material, and the pivotal attachment of said seat cushion member to said planer base member is made by thermo-compression bonding at least a portion of the back edge of said seat cushion member to at least a portion of said back edge of said planer base member.

14. An adjustable anatomical support and seat cushion apparatus for wheelchairs, comprising: a resilient seat cushion member having a user supporting top surface with a generally rectangular planform and a corresponding rectangular bottom surface generally parallel to said top surface, said seat cushion member being made of material having adjustable, generally uniform resiliency characteristics across said user supporting top surface; pivot means; 5

a generally rectangular, planer base member disposed beneath said seat cushion member and having a planform substantially congruent with that of said seat cushion member, said planer base member having a top surface generally facing the bottom surface of said seat cushion member and an edge thereof pivotally affixed by said pivot means to a corresponding part of said seat cushion member, said seat cushion member being rotatable about said pivot means between a non-parallel disposition relative to said planer base member and a parallel disposition relative to said planer base member; a plurality of prescriptively defined seat cushion deforming elements selectively affixed to predetermined areas of the top surface of said planer base member, said cushion deforming elements being operative to engage and deform said seat cushion member when said seat cushion member is rotated about said pivot means from said non-parallel disposition relative to said planer base member into said parallel disposition relative to said planer base member thereby changing the user support characteristics of said seat cushion member across its user supporting surface; and cover means adapted to envelope said seat cushion member, said cushion deforming elements and said planer base member when said seat cushion member and said planer base member are disposed in said parallel disposition thereby maintaining the changed user support characteristics of said seat cushion member.
