An air conditioner and a control method therefor. An outdoor unit of the air conditioner comprises an outdoor heat exchange branch (11) and a defrosting branch (12) connected to the outdoor heat exchange branch (11); the outdoor heat exchange branch (11) is provided with a compressor (112) and an outdoor heat exchanger (111); one end of the defrosting branch (12) is connected to an air discharge end of the compressor (112), and the other end is connected to an air inlet end of the compressor (112); at least a part of the defrosting branch (12) is provided on the surface of the outdoor heat exchanger (111), so that the defrosting branch (12) can bring to the outdoor heat exchanger (111) heat in a high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant generated by the compressor (112). The control method controls connection/disconnection of the defrosting branch (12) according to the humidity near the outdoor heat exchanger (111), can accurately determine the defrosting occasion and ensure the heat exchange efficiency, and can solve the problem that the defrosting effect is affected and even heating of an indoor unit cannot be performed normally due to the fact that existing defrosting modes are poor.
