Abstract:
An air-cooled internal combustion engine for a saddle-type vehicle in which cooling air from a cooling fan for rotating in conjunction with a crankshaft and drawing in outside air is guided by a shroud to at least the periphery of a cylinder head, and the temperature of lubricating oil following lubrication of the cylinder head interior is detected by an oil temperature sensor, wherein: an oil pan (94) is provided to a lower part of a crankcase (33); a return oil path (105) for channeling lubricating oil after lubrication of the cylinder head (35) and guiding the oil to the oil pan (94) is formed in the cylinder head (35), a cylinder block (34), and the crankcase (33); and the oil temperature sensor (106) is attached to the crankcase (33) on the outer side of the shroud (85) so as to detect the temperature of the lubricating oil midway along the return oil path (105). This makes it possible to detect an oil temperature that reflects the temperature of a combustion chamber while simplifying the shroud structure and a routing structure of a harness joined to the oil temperature sensor.
