Abstract:
A needled alumina fiber aggregate made of short alumina fibers, the needled alumina fiber aggregate being characterized in that: the average fiber diameter of the short alumina fibers is 6.0 µm to 10.0 µm; the specific surface area of the short alumina fibers is 0.2 m2/g to 1.0 m2/g; and the high temperature cycle open-side surface pressure persistence (%) of the alumina fiber aggregate is at least 45%. Preferably, the value of subtracting, from the length-weighted geometric average diameter for the diameter of the short alumina fibers, two times the standard error thereof is at least 6.0 µm. Preferably, the proportion of the short alumina fibers with a diameter exceeding 10.0 µm is not more than 5.0%, on a fiber number basis.
